The Pennsylvania Theta chapter of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity was founded at Lafayette College on March 15, 1869 by Clarence G. Voris (Pennsylvania Gamma) and Dr. Edwin L. Evans (Pennsylvania Zeta). Initial meetings were held in Dr. Evans’s home and later a house on Cherry Alley became the official meeting place.
Land was purchased just off Sullivan Lane on Lafayette’s campus by two Pennsylvania Theta alumni in 1903, and two Phi Psi Alumni from Cornell University were contracted as architects. Construction of the chapter house, known as the Old Grey Barn, was completed in the spring of 1909.
The chapter house was moved to its current location on March field in 1971. In 2006, the house was renovated and had its front porch restored to its original state before the move.
